A group of students at De Montfort University have lovingly created a 3D representation of what London looked like in the 17th century before the Great Fire of London leveled the city. The result is a haunting yet beautiful journey through a time long past.

Many of the buildings are their own estimations and creations, but they followed the original street layouts from old maps for accuracy including using the real names of actual places that once existed.

You can almost smell the stench and hear the noise!

Well done guys!

  1. I noticed that this project used the CryEngine3 which is the same engine used in games like crysis 3 and whatnot. Do you know, will there be some sort of download or something that we might be able to get that would allow us to launch this as a program and actually roam around like a game. It is a fascinating thing and would love to see more than a video fly through and some screenshots.

  2. Wonderful video, however took me almost 45 mins to watch it because it froze up 3 or 4 times. Tried to watch again after it was over thinking it had completely loaded, but no, still freezing.

      • Just thought I would add that I tried it on my desktop and I could watch it…….totally AMAZING….so glad I was able to see this. Great job.
Was using my tablet earlier so that might have been the issue.

  3. I love it, i just wish we could see some people too, ju st becaosue I would love those costumes 😉

  4. Haunting images. You can certainly visualize a fire spreading quickly among the closely placed wooden buildings, the lanes were so narrow. I can imagine there would have been a lot more filth about! People just emptied chamber pots etc. right out of the windows. That’s why gentlemen always walked on the outside of the street to protect the ladies! As someone else pointed out sound and people would have added to the scene. Very well done. Enjoyed watching it.
