The Best Football Stadiums to Visit in London

Aug 14, 2023 By jonathan

As well as London being a city steeped in history and culture, it is also a destination for football fans from around the world. The iconic clubs, football culture of the UK and some of the best stadiums in the world make London a great place to visit for fans and tourists.

In this article, we’ll explore the best football stadiums to visit in London.

Wembley Stadium: Home of the National Team.

Often referred to as the “Home of Football,” Wembley is a colossal venue with a historical legacy. With a seating capacity of over 90,000, it’s Europe’s second-largest stadium and an iconic venue for major events.

The same stadium hosted the 1966 World Cup Final in which host nation England won the competition for the first and only time. Fans can explore the stadium’s interactive museum, celebrating the history of English football and its heroes. The guided tours provide a sneak peek into the players’ dressing rooms, the Royal Box, and even onto the pitch itself. The stadium is located a short distance from central London with the Tube or local rail service providing good transport links.

Emirates Stadium: Home of Arsenal FC

The Emirates Stadium is located in North London and is one of the best stadiums in Europe with a capacity of over 60,000.

The stadium has state-of-the-art facilities and some of the best hospitality packages in the Premier League. Home of Arsenal Football Club, if you are in London and the team is playing, be sure to go and experience a game in the stands.

Arsenal’s impressive museum is a highlight for visitors, displaying the club’s history and recent trophies. A stadium tour takes fans through the tunnel, onto the pitch, and into the manager’s dugout, providing a taste of the players’ perspective.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: Spectacular

The newest and most modern stadium in London is the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, home of Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur. With a retractable pitch and a 17,500-seat single-tier stand, the stadium hosts other major events including NFL games and concerts. The stadium’s acoustics create an intense atmosphere, making it a fortress for the team. If visiting North London get Tottenham Hotspur tickets

Fans visiting the stadium can embark on a tour that includes access to the dressing rooms and the player’s tunnel. At a cost of £1.3bn the stadium is one of the best in the world, a must see.

Stamford Bridge: Home of Chelsea FC

Stamford Bridge stadium in West London is the home of Chelsea Football Club. With a capacity of 40,341, it is one of the smallest out of all major English teams. However, this ensures an electric atmosphere for the major Chelsea games.

With the iconic Matthew Harding Stand and the Shed End, Stamford Bridge has passionate energy that resonates with the loyal Chelsea fanbase. The stadium will increase in size over the next few years, visit before the work starts. Tickets for Chelsea are always in demand, be sure to order from the official ticket office.

Craven Cottage: Fulham FC

In stark contrast to the larger, more modern stadiums, Craven Cottage offers a unique experience. Nestled along the banks of the River Thames, it’s the charming home of Fulham Football Club. The stadium’s quaint architecture and the Johnny Haynes Stand’s terraced design create an intimate atmosphere that captures the essence of traditional football.

Craven Cottage’s Riverside Stand features a fascinating museum that captures the club’s history and heritage. Be prepared Fulham FC have one of the most expensive ticket prices in European football.

London Stadium: West Ham United

Whilst initially built for the 2012 Olympics, the London Stadium later became the home of West Ham United FC. The innovative design of the stadium makes it a good place to visit, it is unlike any other in the UK. Take a tour of the London stadium, see the West Ham museum and if possible, go to a game.  Located next to the Westfield Centre in East London, in terms of things to do near a stadium, this has it all including restaurants and shops.

London has many football stadiums all across the largest city in the United Kingdom, if you have the opportunity to visit, we truly recommend those listed above. Each stadium is iconic, has great history and all of which offer a unique experience.

Whether you are fanatical about football or just an admirer of architecture and sports culture, these stadiums deserve a place on your London schedule.
