Faithful or Traitor? The BBC’s smash-hit game of paranoia and backstabbing is heading for the West End — and it’s bringing a genuinely ingenious theatrical twist with it. The Traitors – Acts of Betrayal, the world premiere stage adaptation of the global phenomenon, goes on sale today and begins previews at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on 11 May 2027, with an official opening night on 8 June 2027.

Presented by Studio Lambert and Neal Street Productions, the show is written by John Finnemore — the man behind Radio 4’s Cabin Pressure and a co-writer on Good Omens — and directed by Robert Hastie, who steered back-to-back Olivier Best New Musical winners Standing at the Sky’s Edge and Operation Mincemeat. It isn’t one play but five: a cycle of brand new dramas that does something television simply cannot.

Five plays, five endings — and a Saturday in the audience’s hands

The conceit answers a question every armchair detective has asked: who would have won if different players had been chosen to be the Traitors? From Monday to Friday the story begins in exactly the same way each night, but ends five different ways. A character banished or murdered early in one version emerges victorious in another. Each stands alone as a complete drama; taken together, they reveal what happens when the cloak falls elsewhere and victims become victors.

Then there are the Saturdays, when the audience is handed control to decide who will wear the cloak. Their choice determines, in real time, which version plays out — so the matinee crowd may witness one outcome and the evening audience quite another. It is, fittingly, a world where nothing is certain and no one is safe.

Each of the five plays tells a whole story on its own. But the same evening could have turned out in completely different ways, and anyone who wants to discover how is welcome to come back and find out. On the surface it is a game of paranoia and betrayal. Underneath, it is about who we really are under pressure, and the way our true colours show in the end.

Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert

It’s a true privilege to bring such an innately theatrical concept to the stage… With a different new play performed each week-day night, and rogue-choice Saturday performances, they’ve together created an endeavour of extraordinary scale, offering audiences a genuine box-set of entertainment from the heart of the Traitors universe.

Caro Newling, Co-Founder of Neal Street Productions

It’s quite the pedigree on both sides. Studio Lambert — also behind Gogglebox, The Circle and Race Across the World — swept all five of its nominated categories at the 2025 Primetime Emmys for The Traitors US. Neal Street, founded by Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris and Caro Newling, has originated stage hits including The Lehman Trilogy, The Motive and the Cue and The Hills of California. Rights were negotiated through All3Media International.
