Shakespeare’s Globe has unveiled its ambitious Summer Season for 2025, featuring a rich blend of classic Shakespeare works, a modern American masterpiece, and unique theatrical events running from April through October.

Classic Works and Bold Choices

The season opens with Associate Artistic Director Sean Holmes directing “Romeo and Juliet” (April 25-August 2) with Rawaed Asde and Lola Shalam in the title roles. The Globe Theatre will transform into the dark, brooding American West for this production, where a blood feud between two enemies erupts with brutal consequences.

In a historic first for the Globe, Arthur Miller’s seminal play “The Crucible” (May 8-July 12) will be performed in the Globe Theatre, directed by Ola Ince. This marks the first time a modern classic will be staged in the iconic open-air venue.

Holmes will also direct “The Merry Wives of Windsor” (July 4-September 20), presenting Shakespeare’s tale of mischief and metamorphoses where the disreputable Sir John Falstaff attempts to seduce two wealthy housewives who turn the tables on him.

Robin Belfield returns to direct “Twelfth Night, or What You Will” (August 8-October 25), bringing Shakespeare’s tragicomedy to life in what’s described as “an intoxicating whirlwind, where love can be as changeable as the weather.”

The rarely performed “Troilus and Cressida” (September 26-October 26) will be directed by Owen Horsley in his Globe directorial debut. This satirical study of appearance versus reality sees the worlds of Greece and Troy clash on stage.

Special Events and Educational Offerings

A special one-night-only performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (September 14) will feature a company of actors meeting for the first time on the day of the show, directed by Blanche McIntyre. This theatrical experiment puts the original Elizabethan process of “cue scripts” at the heart of the Globe.

The summer hit “Rough Magic,” directed by Globe Director of Education Lucy Cuthbertson, returns to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse (July 19-August 23). This supernaturally silly adventure features the Weird Sisters from “Macbeth” in a family-friendly production.

The Globe’s flagship educational project, “Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank,” returns for its 19th year with a production of “Macbeth” (March 13-April 20), offering over 26,000 free tickets for students from London and Birmingham.

Accessibility and Cultural Engagement

“We hope this exciting season comes at a price that people can afford,” says Artistic Director Michelle Terry. “A price that allows people to take a punt on a play they may not know, in an iconic theatre they may never have visited before.”

The Globe will welcome the Ramadan Tent Project on March 9 for Open Iftar 2025, hosting a breaking of the fast in the iconic open-air theatre. The venue will also host a collaboration with the World Health Organization on June 4, exploring the benefits of arts on physical, mental, and social well-being.

In a new initiative, playwright Sarah Dickenson will join Shakespeare’s Globe as Writer-in-Residence in collaboration with Exeter Northcott Theatre, marking the first time the Globe has hosted a writer in the 52-year history of the Playwright’s ’73 scheme.

Public booking for the summer season opens on February 25, with tickets ranging from £5 to £80, continuing the Globe’s commitment to accessible pricing.
