ESI London is already one of the most established and well-known Esports industry conferences. This year it will be better than ever. When the event takes place from 19 – 20 October 2023, it will include the first ESI Film Festival.
This means the expected 700+ attendees will have two event sections to enjoy. The Checkpoint conference starts ESI London, at BOXPARK, Wembley, on 19 October, with the film festival following on 20 October, at BAFTA.
Checkpoint event for video game creators
The first part of ESI London, Checkpoint, is a premier conference for the Esports industry. This year’s conference focuses on the business of Esports and video games. The intention is to provide insights into the latest industry trends, developments, challenges, and opportunities. For example, mobile gaming continues to be a rising trend, with development for mobile devices essential to the future of video gaming, Esports, and casino gaming.
Mobile development is also a major opportunity in the industry, as is the ongoing emergence of VR and AI. Using generative AI also represents a challenge as developers seek to acquire the relevant skills. Further challenges for casino gaming providers in the UK come in the form of sites not on the UK gamstop program that operate abroad. Being challenged by competition and AI is not necessarily bad news for the industry as it motivates developers to improve and enhance their skills. Events like the Checkpoint conference at ESI London give developers insights into the latest knowledge and tech they can use to help them thrive by creating more complex and attractive games that meet the demands of gamers.
Inaugural ESI Film Festival at BAFTA
This year, for the first time, the ESI agenda is expanding to include the ESI Film Festival at BAFTA. The aim of the festival is to place the people behind the scenes in the industry in the spotlight. This spotlight will take the form of short films that this year will cover the themes of inequality, diversity, and mental health. Competition entries will show how video gaming and Esports can positively impact people’s lives.
There is a £10,000 prize pool available to competition entrants with prizes as follows:
- £5,000 for first place
- £3,000 for second place
- £2,000 for third place
Submissions for the ESI Film Festival are open now, and they close on 15 September 2023.
There is no doubt that this is an exciting year for attendees at ESI London. They have the usual opportunity to socialise and network with others in the industry. This opportunity allows them to share insights and best practices with each other and improve their own skills. In addition, this year, the ESI Film Festival takes the event to a whole new level. The two sections of ESI London combined aim to inspire those attending and show the value that video gaming and Esports have in the world today as they play a positive role in people’s lives.
