Polo teams from New York, Buenos Aires, Moscow, Abu Dhabi and Sydney will be in London in June to compete in a three-day event.

Polo in the Park will take place at Hurlingham Park, home of the Hurlingham Club in Fulham, London on the banks of the River Thames. To make the games faster and more exciting, some polo rules will be dropped and new ones introduced. Spectators will be able to be closer to the games because the pitch will be 229m (250 yards) long and 110m (120 yards) wide – about half the size of a regular polo ground.

Polo was first played at the Hurlingham Club in 1874. Since then, the club has been known as the headquarters and home of polo for Britain. The Hurlingham Polo Association is still the sport’s governing body for the UK and Commonwealth. The first MINT Polo in the Park in 2009 was the first major event to be played at Hurlingham for over 70 years, because in 1939 the polo grounds were converted into allotments for growing fruit and vegetables during the Second World War.

Harrods will provide a restaurant and offer a limited edition hamper for two, featuring gourmet picnic dishes prepared by Harrods chefs. There will also be a Veuve Clicquot Champagne Garden.

The event begins on 8 June with City Friday (noon–9pm). Saturday is Ladies Day (noon–8pm) and Sunday is Finals Day (noon–7pm). Tickets cost from £20 to £45 adults, £10–£15 children and £60–£110 families.
