London’s rich musical heritage is about to be celebrated in spectacular fashion with the launch of Live Odyssey, an ambitious new attraction opening in Camden this May. Billed as “what Voyage is to ABBA, but for all of British music,” this immersive experience promises to take visitors on a journey through six decades of the sounds that shaped Britain and influenced the world.
Located in the heart of Camden—long established as one of London’s most vibrant musical districts—Live Odyssey combines state-of-the-art technology with live performances to create something that’s part museum, part concert, and part time machine.
More Than Just a Museum
Visitors to Live Odyssey can expect a two-and-a-half-hour adventure that begins dramatically as they enter via “The Clash steps,” paying homage to one of London’s most iconic bands. From there, the experience unfolds across six distinct rooms, each dedicated to a different musical era—from the revolutionary sounds of the 1960s through to today’s chart-toppers.
What sets Live Odyssey apart from traditional music museums is its emphasis on immersion and interactivity. Live bands perform throughout the venue, playing reimagined versions of classics by artists ranging from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to Oasis, Radiohead, Amy Winehouse, and Harry Styles. These aren’t mere tribute acts but carefully curated musicians who bring fresh energy to familiar favorites.
Gary Prosser, Creative Director of Live Odyssey, explains the vision: “Live Odyssey is not just a tribute to the rich tapestry of British music; it’s a celebration of the community, creativity, and passion that defines our live music scene. By blending innovative technology with the spirit of live performance, we’re creating a space where fans can connect with the legends of the past whilst inspiring the talent of tomorrow.”
Holographic History
Perhaps the most technologically advanced element of Live Odyssey is its Hologram Room, which will feature iconic British musicians brought back to life through cutting-edge visual technology. For the launch, visitors will experience an exclusive holographic performance by The Libertines, captured in their classic red military uniforms.
Carl Barât of The Libertines shared his enthusiasm for the project: “This is something truly special. Performing in Camden for this project brought everything full circle for us. Knowing it will live on as part of Live Odyssey is truly exciting—it’s a tribute to the music that shaped us and the fans who’ve supported us.”
His bandmate Pete Doherty added, “British music thrives on its history and its ability to evolve. Being part of this is thrilling—it’s like stepping into the future while paying homage to the past.”
Rare Treasures and Artistic Celebrations
Beyond the performances, Live Odyssey houses an impressive collection of music memorabilia and artwork. In partnership with Pop Nouveau, the attraction will display a rotating collection of 3,500 original album and single cover artworks, alongside rare items like David Bowie’s microphone from his legendary Glastonbury performance and the recording leads used during John Lennon’s sessions for “Imagine.”
A highlight of the exhibition is the Lennon Wired Exhibition, featuring works by artist James Wilkinson that incorporate segments of microphone leads acquired from John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s former Tittenhurst Park estate. Julia Baird, John Lennon’s sister, commented: “I’m overawed to know that these wires James has included in his work were part of the creative process that became the iconic song, Imagine.”
Visitors will also encounter “The Tapes We Left Behind,” a striking collection showcasing art created from master tapes used by musicians including Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead.
Supporting Grassroots Music
In a thoughtful nod to music’s future, Live Odyssey has partnered with the Music Venue Trust (MVT), a charity dedicated to protecting and improving grassroots music venues across the UK. A portion of ticket sales will support MVT’s mission, while revenue from exclusive merchandise will directly benefit UK venues.
Mark Davyd, CEO of Music Venue Trust, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “British music has always drawn strength from its roots, and we are grateful that Live Odyssey will be supporting MVT in their mission to protect the spaces where countless artists have honed their craft.”
Six Decades of British Sound
The experience covers the full spectrum of British music:
- 1960s: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Kinks
