America’s master of Pop Art silk-screen technique is to be showcased in an exhibition at England’s oldest gallery this summer.

Andy Warhol: The Portfolios, opening in June at the Dulwich Picture Gallery, will be the first European showing of Warhol works from the Bank of America Collection. It will include 80 works from 13 portfolios from the early 1960s through to the mid-1980s.

Visitors will be able to see some of Warhol’s most famous images alongside some that are less familiar. Iconic portraits of Muhammad Ali and Marilyn Monroe will hang amongst his 1981 Myths and 1979 Space Fruit: Still Lifes.

The Dulwich Picture Gallery in south London became England’s first public art gallery in 1811 when Sir Francis Bourgeois bequeathed his collection of old masters ‘for the inspection of the public’.

Rena De Sisto, Global Arts and Culture executive at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, says: ‘We are thrilled that Andy Warhol: The Portfolios will have its first European display in one of London’s best-loved and most beautiful spaces.’

The Dulwich Picture Gallery is open Tue–Suns and Bank Holiday Mons, 11am–5pm, admission £5 adults, £4 seniors, free for unemployed, disabled, students and under-18s. Andy Warhol: The Portfolios runs from 20 June to 16 September, tickets £10 adults, £8 seniors, £5 unemployed, disabled and students, free for children and Friends of the Gallery.
