  1. I’m just old enough to remember it. I remember trying to feel my way along the streets on my way home from school. It was like being blind, and very scary.

  2. I was just 5 years old and with my Mum. I remember we walked into the side of a double-decker bus which was stopped, but it had all its lights on, inside & out and we still hadn’t seen it! Moved to the West Country a few years later for my Dad’s health, as he had contracted bronchitis in the war and wouldn’t have lasted another year in the London air.
