Holborn

Holborn Tube Station is a London Underground station located in the Holborn district of the London Borough of Camden. It is situated on the junction of High Holborn and Kingsway, and serves both the Central and Piccadilly lines.

The station was opened on 15 December 1906, as part of the Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway (GNP&BR), which is now known as the Piccadilly line. The station was originally called ‘Holborn Kingsway’ and was designed by the architect Leslie Green, who was known for his distinctive red-tiled fa√ßades on many of the early Tube Stations.

The station was renamed as ‘Holborn’ in 1933, when the Central line extension was opened and Holborn Viaduct station was closed. The station underwent a major refurbishment in the 1980s, which included the installation of new escalators and lifts, and the construction of a new ticket hall.
