About this London Attraction
The Other Palace, previously known as St. James Theatre, is a relatively new addition to the theatre scene in London. Located in Victoria, the theatre comprises two distinct performance spaces: the Main Auditorium, which can accommodate up to 312 guests, and the Studio, which has a more intimate capacity of 120.
The theatre first opened its doors in 2012 as the St. James Theatre, with the aim of showcasing new and emerging talent in the performing arts. The venue has always been dedicated to producing and promoting new work, particularly in musical theatre, and it quickly established itself as one of the most exciting venues in the West End.
In 2017, the theatre was acquired by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group and was renamed The Other Palace. The new name reflects the theatre’s focus on nurturing new and innovative theatre, and the space has been redeveloped to provide even more opportunities for emerging artists to showcase their work.
The Main Auditorium is the larger of the two spaces and has been designed to be flexible and adaptable to a wide range of productions. The stage is fully equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, as well as a full orchestra pit, making it an ideal venue for musicals and plays alike.
The Studio, on the other hand, is a more intimate space that is perfect for experimental and immersive theatre. It has been designed to be completely flexible, allowing for a wide range of staging options, and it is frequently used for workshops and rehearsals as well as performances.
Over the years, The Other Palace has played host to a wide range of productions, from new musicals and plays to stand-up comedy and cabaret. Recent productions have included the critically acclaimed musicals “Eugenius!” and “Heathers: The Musical”, as well as a variety of smaller-scale productions and workshops.
Despite its relatively short history, The Other Palace has already established itself as one of London’s most exciting and innovative theatre spaces. With its focus on new and emerging talent, it is the perfect venue for theatre-goers who are looking for something fresh, exciting, and cutting-edge.
