About this London Attraction
Portobello Road Market, also known as the Notting Hill Market, is a must-visit attraction if you’re in London. Located in the heart of the charming Notting Hill neighborhood, this world-famous market is open every Saturday from morning to afternoon. The market offers a wide range of goods, from antiques to clothing, books, and food.
One of the reasons why Portobello Road Market is so popular is its unique and vibrant atmosphere. The market is bustling with energy and is a great place to people-watch. You’ll find vendors from all over the world selling their wares, and the colorful storefronts and street performers make for a lively experience.
The market is especially famous for its antiques, and there are several streets dedicated to antique shops. If you’re a collector or simply interested in unique finds, you’ll definitely want to explore this section of the market. You can find everything from vintage clothing to antique furniture, and there are plenty of knowledgeable vendors who can help you find what you’re looking for.
In addition to antiques, Portobello Road Market is also a great place to shop for souvenirs. You can find everything from postcards and keychains to handmade crafts and artwork. If you’re looking for unique gifts to bring back home, this is the perfect place to find them.
One thing to keep in mind when visiting Portobello Road Market is that it can get very crowded. The market is popular with both locals and tourists, so be prepared for crowds. If you’re claustrophobic or don’t like crowds, you may want to visit during off-peak hours.
Another tip for visitors is to bring cash. While some vendors may accept credit cards, many only take cash. There are ATMs located throughout the market, but they can get crowded and may have long lines.
If you’re visiting with young children, be aware that the market can be difficult to navigate with a stroller. The streets can be narrow and crowded, making it hard to push a stroller through. If possible, consider leaving the stroller at home or using a baby carrier instead.
Finally, no discussion of Portobello Road Market would be complete without mentioning the movie Notting Hill. The market was featured prominently in the film, and many of the shops and storefronts you see in the movie are real places you can visit. Fans of the movie will definitely want to check out some of these locations while visiting the market.
In conclusion, Portobello Road Market is a unique and vibrant attraction that should definitely be on your London itinerary. With its wide range of goods and lively atmosphere, there’s something for everyone at this world-famous market. Just be prepared for crowds and bring plenty of cash!

Londontopia's Review
The market is a victim of its own success. Thanks to the film Notting Hill, the area is now very rich and expensive, and it is jam-packed with visitors to the market on the weekends, so much that you can barely walk around, let alone explore any of the antique storefronts. There are plenty of other smaller, less crowded markets in London. You may enjoy those more. But one cannot replace the vibe of the famous market and visiting the Notting Hill Bookshop (formerly Travel Bookshop that the film was based on).
