If I was in London on Sunday, September 9th, I would be doing this. The London Transport Museum is providing a rare opportunity to travel along the London Underground on a 1930’s stock Tube train.

Step back in time with London Transport Museum’s art deco heritage train trips, and enjoy a journey reminiscent of the 1930s in Metro-land, when the 1938 Tube stock train runs on the Metropolitan line between Amersham and Harrow-on-the-Hill.
Passengers can dress up in their deco best, and get into the vintage vibe at Amersham station with The Susie Qs, a 1940s close-harmony trio, singing Andrew’s Sisters classics and performing the dance moves to match on the station platform.
A retro housewife in 1940s garb will be greeting visitors at the station, helping to bring the era to life, while families can watch their little ones getting creative with the Museum’s free children’s flag-making craft activities at the station, which are suitable for children aged 3-12. Visitors can browse London Transport Museum’s pop-up shop with its range of Metropolitan line gifts.
There are also free heritage bus rides from Amersham station to Amersham Old Town where the town’s annual Heritage Day will take place, with live bands and performances, market stalls and a children’s area and fairground.
Train tickets will soon be available for the following journeys:
- Harrow on the Hill – Amersham (Single journey)
- Amersham – Watford – Amersham (Return journey)
- Amersham – Watford – Amersham (Return journey)
- Amersham – Watford – Amersham (Return journey)
- Amersham – Ealing Common OR Ruislip (Single journey) The destination of this train journey is yet to be confirmed.
Exact times for the above journeys are yet to be confirmed. Prices will start at £10 for adults, £7 concessions and £4 for children aged 4 to 14, while 3 year-olds and under go free on laps. 15 to 17 year-olds travel at the concession rate.
