London’s iconic Savoy Hotel is giving collectors, interior designers, and luxury enthusiasts a rare opportunity to own a piece of its storied history. In preparation for an upcoming refurbishment, the Savoy will auction a selection of furniture, fittings, and decor from its prestigious suites, guest rooms, and public spaces. The two-day event, hosted by Pro Auction, will take place on 11 and 12 December, with items available for viewing on 9 and 10 December.

A Legacy of Elegance and History

The Savoy, a landmark on the Strand since its opening in 1889, is synonymous with luxury and has played host to royalty, celebrities, and cultural icons over its long history. Highlights of the auction include treasures from the hotel’s famed Personality Suites, which have honored some of its most illustrious guests, such as Charlie Chaplin. Among the standout items is a portrait of Chaplin painted during his three-month stay at the hotel in 1952, when the Savoy was thronged with adoring fans.

Other unique pieces up for grabs include a Chippendale-style camelback sofa by the US brand Donghia, a neoclassical mahogany and inlaid demilune commode, and an elaborate rococo cartouche giltwood wall mirror. The sale also features bespoke mirrors, silk drapery, table and floor lamps, and a range of other furnishings from the hotel’s 267 rooms and suites.

An Opportunity to Own History

For those looking to add a touch of the Savoy’s opulence to their homes or collections, the auction represents a rare chance to acquire items that reflect the hotel’s rich heritage and impeccable craftsmanship. Pro Auction describes the event as an opportunity to “acquire a little bit of the Savoy’s magic,” emphasizing the prestige and artistry embodied in every piece.

This auction is not the first time the Savoy has undergone a transformation. In 2010, the hotel completed a three-year renovation costing £220 million. The upcoming refurbishment of rooms and suites, part of the Savoy’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the guest experience, will mark the next chapter in its storied evolution.

Accessibility and Participation

While the auction will be held at the Savoy, it is open to international participants through online bidding, making it accessible to collectors and admirers worldwide. Whether you’re an interior designer seeking a unique touch for a project, a luxury hotelier, or simply a fan of London’s history, this auction promises an extraordinary opportunity to connect with the legacy of one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

Mark your calendar for this unmissable event and take a chance to bring a piece of the Savoy’s timeless elegance into your life.
