The Olivier Award-nominated adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved children’s book “Room on the Broom” is set to captivate audiences across the UK in a major tour, culminating in a festive run at London’s West End.
Tall Stories, the acclaimed theatre company known for its family-friendly productions, announced that their musical adaptation of “Room on the Broom” will embark on a nationwide tour from October 2024 to April 2025. The tour will visit 30 venues, opening at Z-Arts in Manchester on October 22, 2024, and concluding at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry on April 26, 2025.
The highlight of this magical journey will be a Christmas season at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, running from November 22, 2024, to January 5, 2025. This West End engagement promises to be a delightful holiday treat for families and children aged 3 and up.
“Room on the Broom” tells the story of a witch and her cat who encounter new friends during their broomstick travels. As they welcome a dog, a bird, and a frog aboard, the broom becomes overcrowded and snaps – just as a hungry dragon appears. The show, directed by Olivia Jacobs, features enchanting puppetry, sing-along songs, and hilarious moments that serve as a perfect introduction to theatre for young children.
Toby Mitchell, Tall Stories’ artistic director and co-founder, expressed excitement about the upcoming tour: “We first brought ‘Room on the Broom’ to the stage in 2008, and since then it’s toured nationally and beyond. We’re particularly excited about bringing some magical spells, catchy songs, and lots of laughter to family audiences this autumn.”
The production has enjoyed international success, with tours in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, and Poland. It has also been translated into German for regular tours with Junges Theater, Bonn. In 2013, the show received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Family & Entertainment production.
Tickets for both the Lyric Theatre run and the UK tour are now on sale. With its track record of delighting audiences worldwide, “Room on the Broom” promises to be a must-see theatrical experience for families across the UK this coming season.
